FAM gives in to Silver’s request

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has finally rescheduled Silver Strikers’ Fisd Challenge Cup quarter-final match against holders Kamuzu Barracks (KB) from today to tomorrow.

The Central Bankers had requested the revision of the fixture following their crammed diary that could have seen them play four games within seven days, but FAM was reluctant to reschedule their fixture owing to what they described as a “tight calendar”.

Silver warm up ahead of a previous league match

The Bankers had threatened to forfeit the Fisd Challenge Cup match had FAM stuck to its guns not to reschedule the match.

Following the development, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has also rescheduled Silver’s TNM Super League match against Masters Security FC from tomorrow to Thursday

Relief was the prevalent emotion for Silver chairperson Ralph Tseka after the changes, saying: “We are very relieved because as I said, it could have been quite tough for us, especially considering that the team is only expected to return this afternoon [yesterday] from Gabon.

“We continued engaging FAM yesterday [Thursday] and they were forthcoming and understanding. In particular, I would like to thank [FAM competitions and media director] Mr. [Gomezgani] Zakazaka for his understanding and we are really grateful.

“We understood their situation and they also understood our situation. So, as a compromise, it was agreed that the match against KB be shifted to Sunday while the league match against Masters has also been pushed to Thursday.”

Zakazaka confirmed the changes in an interview yesterday, saying they had fruitful discussions with the Bankers.

After Sunday’s cup match against KB, Silver’s focus will switch to Wednesday’s CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round return leg tie against A.O CMS in Lilongwe.
